An Ancient Statue, “Door Guardian”, Recently Discovered Near Angkor Thom
According to Apsara Authority, an ancient statue was recently discovered in Siem Reap on the 30th of July 2017.
The Apsara Authority, in joint research with the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies have accidentally discovered an ancient statue at the site of Tonle Sngout hospital, which was built during King Jayavarman VII’s reign,.
The site is about 1 kilometer away from Angkor Thom city, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Siem Reap─ According to Apsara Authority, an ancient statue was recently discovered in Siem Reap on the 30th of July 2017.
The Apsara Authority, in joint research with the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies have accidentally discovered an ancient statue at the site of Tonle Sngout hospital, which was built during King Jayavarman VII’s reign,.
The site is about 1 kilometer away from Angkor Thom city, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The length of the statue was about 1.90 meters long, with both arms missing, whereas the left leg was cut off at the thigh and the right one cut off at the ankle. However, the body as well as the head of the statue were still in good shapes and forms. Researchers believed that the statue is known as the “Door Guardian”, in which were the symbols of protection.
The Apsara Authority also said that the ancient statue was sculpted in the Bayon style and will be taken to the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum in order to ensure safety and protection. Moreover, the statue will be on display for visitors to see as well.
