Angkor Wat Claims Top Spot As The Most Popular UNESCO Heritage Site in 2017

Recently on January 2nd, Asian Correspondent, one of Asia’s leading independent news, has released a top 10 list of the most popular UNESCO Heritage Sites of 2017 among tourists worldwide.

Surprisingly, the top three spots were dominated by Asia’s magnificent cultural and historical sites, beating out the other well-known world heritage sites. Cambodia’s majestic Angkor Wat has managed to snatch the first rank, followed by Taj Mahal of India, and the Great Wall of China. Other famous sites such as Machu Pichu of Preu, and the Old City of Jerusalem in Israel were also featured in the list.

Cambodia’s majestic Angkor Wat has managed to snatch the first rank, followed by Taj Mahal of India, and the Great Wall of China. Other famous sites such as Machu Pichu of Preu, and the Old City of Jerusalem in Israel were also featured in the list.

Embedded with ancient historical values, spectacular architecture, and awestruck beauty, it is undeniable that Angkor Wat has been one of the major tourist destinations of Cambodia that has attracted millions of people annually. Angkor Wat was listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, and has so far received much honorable recognition from the world.

One of the world’s largest travel sites, TripAdvisor, has also crowned Angkor Wat at the World’s Top Landmark in May 2017. TripAdvisor has been choosing the winners annually based on the travelers’ reviews and Angkor Wat has received of around 33,000 five-star reviews in the past several months. Moreover, Angkor Wat also ranked 1st as the World’s Largest Temple by Touropia, a travel list website that features the most amazing sights around the world.

It is indeed another great achievement for Cambodia that Angkor Wat was ranked as the most popular UNESCO Heritage Site in 2017, as it will help in paving ways for Cambodia’s glorious culture and history to spread and be known by others around the world.
