The Cambodian government says visitors to Angkor Wat will have to pay almost twice as much for admission starting February. The Cambodian government says visitors to Angkor Wat will have to pay almost twice as much for admission starting February.
This comes after Angkor Enterprise, the company in charge of ticket sales at the ancient site, announced that revenue from ticket sales to foreign tourists were up 2.3 per cent from last year.
The price for a single-day ticket will rise from $20 to $37, a three-day pass from $40 to $62, and a seven-day ticket from $60 to $72. There was no explanation given for the increase.
The government said it would be donating $2 from each ticket sold to the Kantha Bopha Foundation, a children’s hospital that offers free medical treatment.
Earlier in August, the government introduced a strict dress code requiring visitors to cover their knees and shoulders while at the ruins.
Several nude photographs taken at the sacred site emerged online last year, sparking outrage across the country. People believe that wearing revealing clothes at the site disrespects the temple’s sanctity.
The new rules will not allow tourists to buy an admission ticket if they are wearing revealing clothes.
