Siem Reap- Angkor Wat will see its new temporary floating bridge by May and will support more than 6,000 people at once.
The remaining 100 meters of the original bridge known as “Spean Harl” leading up to the temple is undergoing its second phase of repairs and is estimated to take four years to which all traffic will close once the floating bridge is completed.
According to the Apsara Authority, the construction of the floating bridge started on November 28 and will be ready to use before May.
Mr. Heng Kim Leng, the Director of the Aspara Authority’s Technical Support Department, said, “the bridge can last for 20 years and will be built with six areas for visitors to view the ancient temple”.
The floating bridge will be made of air bags made from tough plastic that could withstand the heat and rain and would not pollute the water as well. The total area of the air bas is 1,874 square meters and that one square meter could support 272 kilograms. Mr Kim Leng added that the floating bridge can support a total of 6,371 people at once by assuming one person weighs 80 kilograms.
