Phnom Penh– After a French family of four members were lost for a full day in Angkor tourist site, Siem Reap province, another three French women in their mid-twenties were also lost for a full night on August 14, 2016 in a coastal tourist site of Kep, about 150 km to the south of Phnom Penh until they were found by police the early in the morning of the following day.

Brig. General Y Sam Ol, Kep provincial police commissioner, quoted a Tuk-Tuk driver, Mr. Uy Sarath, as saying that he had taken the trio to Kep Mountain by around 16:20 pm where the purchased entry tickets. Their intent was to continue on foot in order to see the sunset over there and asked that he wait for them on the east side of the mountain.

The Brig. Gen. said the stretch of the path is about 8km-long and, by 18:00pm, the driver was there waiting for them, but never showed up. The driver then reported to the police and the local authorities for intervention.

Gen. Sam Ol said once he had received the report, he rushed to assign around 20 men that include those of the provincial police unit; the standing unit of Kep and the national park protection unit to search back and forth in that area until after 1:00 am but unsuccessful because it just too dark.

In the morning of the following day, August 15, 2016, the three women were found getting lost in the forest for the whole night. They were then sent back to their guest house in Kampot.
