Cambodian Athlete Claims The Third Gold Medal at Women Petanque World Championship

On the special weekend of November 10th 2017, Mrs. Ke Leng has just won the gold medal at the 16th Women Petanque World Championship, which took place in Kaihua, Zhejiang, China.

This world class competition is held for the first time at China from November 8th to 12th 2017, with the participation of 43 countries. This year, our Cambodian athlete, Mrs. Ke Leng, has claimed the gold medal for her third time that led her to the tie competition record of three consecutive gold medals after defeating the opponent from Thailand with the result of 43-38.

Phnom Penh- On the special weekend of November 10th 2017, Mrs. Ke Leng has just won the gold medal at the 16th Women Petanque World Championship, which took place in Kaihua, Zhejiang, China.

This world class competition is held for the first time at China from November 8th to 12th 2017, with the participation of 43 countries. This year, our Cambodian athlete, Mrs. Ke Leng, has claimed the gold medal for her third time that led her to the tie competition record of three consecutive gold medals after defeating the opponent from Thailand with the result of 43-38.

Additionally, This third gold medal makes her to break the record and also catch up with the record of Angelique Papon, the French athlete.

According to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, it is the third consecutive years of winning gold medals after winning the first and second gold in 2013 and 2015 respectively. “It is the historic moment in Cambodian sport history! I do admire and appreciate her strong effort on bringing Cambodia pride of Petanque to the top of the world!” said Samdach Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia.

It is well-known worldwide that Petanque is one of the top potential sport of Cambodia, which can be clearly seen by the success and records broken by Cambodian athletes over the years. Along with this impressive news, it is also noticeable that Cambodia will host the Petanque World Championships in 2019 and we hope that we can win more medals in the upcoming world competition.

The Cambodian athlete will return home with her third gold medal

According to local reports, Mrs. Ke Leng is expected to return home on 13th November, at 11pm. Just before this historic moment in Cambodian sport history, there are also remarkable moments happened earlier this year including the gold medal won by Ms. Ouk Sreymom at the World Championships Petanque in Ghent, Belgium in April and another gold medal achievement made by Mr. Sok Chan at the 47th World Championships in Madagascar in 2016.
