Cambodia’s Famed Angkor Earns 55.4 mln USD in 11 Months

Revenue from ticket sales to foreign tourists visiting Cambodia’s famed Angkor archaeological park reached 55.4 million U.S. dollars in the first eleven months of 2016, a 3.48 percent rise over the same period last year, said a statement on Thursday.

The ancient site received 1.94 million foreigners during the January-November period this year, up 3.75 percent over the same period last year, said the statement from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise, which is in charge of ticket sales at the park.

PHNOM PENH— Revenue from ticket sales to foreign tourists visiting Cambodia's famed Angkor archaeological park reached 55.4 million U.S. dollars in the first eleven months of 2016, a 3.48 percent rise over the same period last year, said a statement on Thursday.

The ancient site received 1.94 million foreigners during the January-November period this year, up 3.75 percent over the same period last year, said the statement from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise, which is in charge of ticket sales at the park.

In November alone, the Angkor attracted 219,052 foreigners, generating 6.3 million U.S. dollars in revenue from ticket sales, up 9.4 percent and 7.7 percent, respectively, over the same month last year.

The largest sources of tourists to the site are Chinese, South Koreans, and Japanese.

Located in northwestern country's Siem Reap province, Angkor archaeological park, inscribed on the UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1992, is the kingdom's top tourist destination.
