Cambodia’s King Officiates The Premiere “First They Killed My Father”

Finally, the time has come! One of the most awaiting movies, which directed by famous Hollywood star, Angelina Jolie, will held its premiere screening in this month.

According to a statement posted on First They Killed My Father Facebook page, “Netflix is proud to announce that the Cambodian premiere of First They Killed My Father will take place on 18th February in Cambodia. The premiere will be followed by other screenings around the country”.

“First They Killed My Father”, one of the most awaiting movies in Cambodia

Phnom Penh- Finally, the time has come! One of the most awaiting movies, which directed by famous Hollywood star, Angelina Jolie, will held its premiere screening in this month.

According to a statement posted on First They Killed My Father Facebook page, “Netflix is proud to announce that the Cambodian premiere of First They Killed My Father will take place on 18th February in Cambodia. The premiere will be followed by other screenings around the country”.

“Director Angelina Jolie is delighted to be returning to Cambodia, to fulfill her promise to premiere the film first for Cambodian people. The film, shot entirely in the Khmer language and with a Cambodian cast, was made for and by the Cambodian people.”

Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother will preside over the premiere event, along with senior government officials.

The premiere event will be held on the 18th of February, at the Angkor Wat temple, one of the most famous place in the world. Moreover, there are also two free public screens are prepared in Siem Reap, and one at Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, on the 21st of February.

“First They Killed My Father” is the adaption of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung’s gripping memoir of surviving the deadly Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1978. The story is told through her eyes, from the age of five, when the Khmer Rouge came to power, to nine years old. The film depicts the indomitable spirit and devotion of Loung and her family as they struggle to stay together during the Khmer Rouge years.
