Cambodia’s Rice Ranked 2nd at The 2017 World Rice Conference

Phnom Penh─ The 9^th Annual World Rice Conference was held a few days ago and Cambodia was also one of the participants among several other countries as well.

The 2017 World Rice Conference, the world’s most premier conference focused solely on the rice industry, was held for 3 days, November 6^th-8^th, at the Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel in Macau.

Apparently, the criteria of the competition was judged base on both before and after cooking, including appearance, texture, moisture, aroma and length of the rice grains, with many highly-qualified chefs as the referees. This year’s contest involved 21 rice varieties from 7 major rice-producing countries, such as Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and United States.

Cambodia’s Rice Ranks 2^nd At The 2017 World Rice Conference

Although Cambodia’s rice had impressed the judges, Cambodia did not manage to take the top spot, but still ranked at the 2^nd place. Cambodia has actually won the title of the World’s Best Rice for 3 consecutive years, 2012, 2013, and 2014, but has unfortunately lost the 1^st place to the United States in 2015, and to Thailand in 2016 and 2017.
