Demining Workers in Cambodia Now Receive Free Health Care

Phnom Penh– According to the announcement made by Prime Minister Hun Sen in the occasion of the meeting of workers at Teuk Thla pagoda on February 21st 2018, demining workers now can receive the free healthcare benefits the same way as the garment factory staff.

“The Cambodian Mine Action Centre, the Halo Trust, and other demining organizations would get medical examination and treatment services free of charge at state hospitals. If the health of workers are not guaranteed, their lives are difficult”, the PM said.

On this occasion, CMAC General Director, Heng Ratana, praised the government for giving the care to workers who sacrifice their energy on demining and unexploded ordnance removal in Cambodia.

“On behalf of Cambodian mine clearance operators and CMAC Staff, I would like to express the deepest gratitude toward the PM for providing free medical examination and treatment,” he said.

Additionally, In Deourn, a CMAC official was also impressed by the news. He mentioned that the free healthcare would help reduce his family’s expenses.

“This free service is a great contribution to us. Every year, I usually go to the hospital for treatment two or three times; hence, this support will reduce my family expense on medical care.”, he mentioned.

Mr. Mam Bun Heng, the Minister of Health, is working with all demining organisations, the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority to review and finalize the number of operators who are eligible for the new program.
