Facebook to Launch Two Advanced Smart Home Speakers Taking on Amazon, Google and Apple
PHNOM PENH – Facebook is planning to roll out two smart home speakers with massive 15 inch displays this 2018.
While Apple has launched “HomePod”, Amazon has “Echo” smart home speaker series, and Google offers “Home” and “Home Mini”, Facebook has reportedly planned to unveil two smart home speakers – Aloha and Fiona – in this upcoming July.
According to DigiTimes, the “Aloha” device would be more advanced than “Fiona,” both designed by Facebook’s Building 8 hardware lab. The Aloha would likely launch under the official name Portal and use voice commands, but could also feature facial recognition technology to automatically log users into their respective Facebook accounts via a wide-angle lens on the front of the device.

On the other hand, little has been said about Fiona, it will supposedly come with a Siri-like assistant and appear to be more focus on simple video calling.
Facebook was initially planning to release the devices in May, but the launch was pushed back a coupled of months to perfect the “acoustic quality” and “software modification” of the devices, DigiTimes reported.
