“First They Killed My Father” Gets Great Support From Cambodians
A great and supposed to be one of the most awaiting movies for Cambodian people, “First They Killed My Father”, held its premiere screening on Saturday night, the 19th of February 2017, at the Elephant Terrace, Angkor Wat Complex, Siem Reap.
Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother were seen to chair the event, along with senior government officials.
Cambodian actors and actresses including Jailbreak movie stars and thousands of Cambodian people were also invited to this great event.

According to a statement posted on “Angelina Jolie / Angie” Facebook account, “I wanted to focus not just on the war but on the love of family and one the beauty of the country and in fact I wanted to understand what my son’s birth parents may have gone through. And I wanted to know him better and I wanted to know this country better.”
Moreover, Angelina Jolie also stated during the press conference for the film that, “Cambodia is like a second home and Maddox is happy to be back in his country. I’m deeply honored to have had the chance to work on the film. I hope it reminds everyone that there are little Loungs all around the world today.”
People around the world, especially Cambodian people are really excited to watch this movie.
“First They Killed My Father” is the adaption of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung’s gripping memoir of surviving the deadly Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1978. The story is told through her eyes, from the age of five, when the Khmer Rouge came to power, to nine years old. The film depicts the indomitable spirit and devotion of Loung and her family as they struggle to stay together during the Khmer Rouge years.
