Foreign Minister Instructs Embassy to Intervene for Freedom of Cambodians Imprisoned in Malaysia
Senior Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn issued an instruction to Cambodian Embassy in Malaysia to continue to intervene and solve the problem of Cambodia workers being imprisoned in Malaysia. The instruction came amid reports that there are still Cambodian citizens being detained in Juru prison, Malaysia.
A letter of instruction issued by the Foreign Ministry and received by Fresh News today, August 12, 2016 provides mainly two instructions, one of which is that the Embassy shall try its utmost, no matter how hard it is, to contact with the friend-country and out whether or not there are Cambodian citizens imprisoned in Juru or in any other prison in Malaysia and the other instruction is that if found out that there are Cambodian citizens imprisoned the Embassy shall go down and visit them, while in the meantime try to intervene for the release of those people and get them back home.

It should be recalled that 18 Cambodian workers had been detained in Bukit Jalil prison, Malaysia, under a number of charges but were then released on August 3, 2016 after intervention by Cambodian Embassy in Malaysia.
