Four Different Shapes With Four Different Eras of The Central Market
Central Market is one of the most popular markets in Phnom Penh, which attracts more and more local people and expats day by day. It is a large market constructed in 1937 in the shape of a dome with four arms branching out into vast hallways with countless stalls of goods.
The Central Market is supposed to be the attractive historical building, which stands in the heart of Phnom Penh for a long time. However, the market was operated differently in 4 eras, which Cambodia has gone through.
1. During the 1960s to 1970s, the Central Market is the worthy place for welcoming the high-class delegations from other countries, which coming to Cambodia.

1. During the 1960s to 1970s, the Central Market is the worthy place for welcoming the high-class delegations from other countries, which coming to Cambodia.
2.During 1975-1979 (Khmer Rouge regime), the Central Market was once closed for citizens, however, it was change to be the place for selling foods to officials in embassy by using USD note only for the trade. Moreover, the Khmer Rouge’s authorities also planted many coconut trees around the market.
3.After the fallen of Khmer Rouge regime, the next government tried to clean and restore back the Central Market, and also cut down those tress. Not so long, the market was reopened in public for citizens.
4.Nowadays, the Central Market has claimed to be one of the most popular markets in the country. Many and many visitors never lose their chance to visit the market, whenever they visit Cambodia.
