A Group of Elephants Finally Got Rescued From The Muddy Pit in Mondulkiri
A herd of 11 elephants which were trapped in the muddy pit have finally got rescued last Saturday.
Last week, a group of 11 wild elephants was reported to have gotten stuck in the deep mud-filled hole, which was known to be a former bomb crater, in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, Mondulkiri province, Cambodia.
It was known that the muddy bomb crater is about 3 meters deep and 10 meters long, in which has now been renovated to become a water storage pond, and that the elephants were probably trying to seek for water when they accidentally got trapped in the pit for 4 days with no food.

The rescue operation in saving the elephants was successful due to the big joint effort from the rangers of the wildlife sanctuary, local villagers, Wildlife Alliance, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Elephants Livelihood Initiative Environment (ELIE), as well as Mondulkiri Provincial Administration and Department of Environment.
Big thanks to the local villagers for reporting to the government authorities about the incident, or else those elephants would have died from exhaustion, thirst and starvation.
