India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway Plans to Expand to Cambodia

Phnom Penh- The 1,360 kilometers India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway is expected to appear soon.

It’s a highway under India’s Look East policy that will connect Moreh; India, Mandalay, Yangon; Myanmar and ending at Mae Sot, Thailand. The road is expected to increase trade and commerce in the ASEAN-India Free Trade Area as well as the rest of Southeast Asia.

Indian Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, has recently confirmed at the trilateral highway will be able to complete and full operate in December 2019.

According to an official visit of Samdech Hun Sen in the Republic of India on January 27th, 2018, the possibility of extending the highway to Cambodia is being considered. India and ASEAN have future plans to extend this highway to Cambodia and beyond such as Laos and Vietnam to which an annual increase in incremental GDP will reach an estimated USD 70 billion and USD 20 million in incremental aggregate employment by 2025.
