From Jan-Aug, 92 People Killed by Lightning in Cambodia
Lightning is also a main factor that causes many people die every year in Cambodia, as a result there are 92 people have been killed from January to August 2016, according to Mr. Keo Vy, spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management.
Every year the extremely hot weather before the rainy season is the major reason for the rise in lightning casualties, but for this year storms are added to claim people’s lives also. Furthermore, Lightning mostly strikes at rural areas that’s make most of victims are farmers.
Mr. Keo Vy told that, “Lightning strikes are common during the rainy season (from May to October) but this year, there have been more lightning strikes than usual because of the worst drought in April and May”.

“Besides the fatalities, thunderbolts had injured 99 others during the first eight months of 2016, up from only 58 injuries over the same period in the year before”.
Mr. Keo Vy has added that to avoid the dangers of lightning, people should stay indoor when there is rain.
Besides the injury or loss of people’s lives, there are many bad effects such as, loss of income, dead livestock, devastation by fire and crop damage.
