K-pop Groups Performed in Cambodia: Where Are They Now?

K-POP groups have made a breakthrough success among Cambodian fan. As the popularities keep increasing, major TV stations as well as private companies have invited many K-POP groups to perform in front of thousands of Cambodian fans. So far, Cambodian fans have welcomed many K-POP groups such as After School, Baby Vox Re.V, Paran, SHINee, T-Ara, SPEEP, Miss A, Sistar, U-KISS, Rania, Tatiti, Laboum, and BTOB.

Phnom Penh- K-POP groups have made a breakthrough success among Cambodian fans. As the popularities keep increasing, major TV stations as well as private companies have invited many K-POP groups to perform in front of thousands of Cambodian fans. So far, Cambodian fans have welcomed many K-POP groups such as After School, Baby Vox Re.V, Paran, SHINee, T-Ara, SPEEP, Miss A, Sistar, U-KISS, Rania, Tatiti, Laboum, and  BTOB.

People wonder whatever happen to K-POP groups who came to perform in Cambodia. What are they up to?

After School: In 2011, After School performed for the first time for MTV Exit in Cambodia. Recently, the group hasn’t promoted as a group in Korea. Some member has already left the group and pursed various solo activities in acting, singing, and some members have already married.

Baby Vox Re.V : In 2008, during the promotional trip, Baby Vox Re.V had a concert in Cambodia. Their performance was lived by CTN, a local TV broadcast station. Presently, some member has announced their marriage. Yang Eun Ji, member of Baby Vox Re.V, announced that she has left the group and will be quitting the industry to get married. There is a rumor that the group had been disbanded though there were no official news of it.Paran: Paran was formed by NH Media in 2005 and was invited to perform in Cambodia in 2008. The group is reportedly to be unofficially disbanded after members had left for the army while other members decided to pursue solo activities.

SHINee:  SHINee is one of the famous K-POP boybands in Cambodia. The group performed in Cambodia for the very first time in 2010. According to local reports, 4,000 tickets were sold. Moreover, the group donated US$10,000 to Cambodia Children’s Fun. SHINee has been doing well in Both Korea and Internatioanl market. Un fortunately, the group lost one precious member in 2017. Jong-Hyun, the past member of SHINee, passed away due to depression, according to reports.

T-ARA & SPEED: In 2014, T-Ara and SPEEP performed for the first time in a concert called “Phnom Penh Invasion”. The concert sold out of the 3,000 seat stadium. T-ara was one of the most successful k-pop girl group but they faced an unfortunate rumor, which made the group fall down in popularity and unable to active in Korea for a long period. Recently, one member of T-ara has announced the group’ departure from MBK entertainment. However, it seems like their agency has taken action for the trademark of T-ara right before the girl group’s departure from the agency, according to allkpop. Boy Group SPEED has not promoted for the past few years. There is a rumor saying that the group has already disbanded.

Miss A: Miss A performed in Cambodia in 2014 when they were one of the top girl group in Korea. Recently, JYP entertainment has announced that the group is officially disbanded and Suzy is preparing for her solo comeback.

SISTAR & TAHITI: Sistar and Tahiti performed in a concert together in 2013. The group received tremendous supports during that time. Recently, Sistar has announced their official disbandment while members have been pursuing solo activities. in singing and acting. Tahiti has not promoted much in Korea. One member “Jisoo” has officially departed from the group due to depression and a panic order.

Laboum & U-Kiss: In 2014, Laboum and U-Kiss are the line-up for K-pop Dream Concert in Cambodia. Recently, Laboum has faced a huge controversy for winning their first award at music show while other members are competing in idols rebooting program. Same to U-Kiss, some members have left the group and one member has officially married. The group has not promoted much in Korea.

BTOB: BTOB visited Cambodia in 2013. During their visit, they hold a concert called “BTOB Press Play Party”, which attracted a lot of fans. Moreover, the group also visited the light House orphanage in Cambodia. Recently, the group has promoted in Korea. Both solo activities of the member and promotion as a group are doing well.
