Long-Lost Japanese Cargo Ship, Recently Discovered in Cambodia’s Water

A Japanese sunken cargo vessel, “Burma Maru”, was recently discovered by a group of six divers from The Dive Shop Cambodia team on February 21st.

“Burma Maru” was known to be attacked by The USS Swordfish submarine on June 12th, 1942 during the World War II era. It was built in 1917 in Kobe, Japan, and was owned by the Nanyo Kaiun K.K. shipping company.

The long-lost Japanese ship

Sihanouk Ville─ A Japanese sunken cargo vessel, “Burma Maru”, was recently discovered by a group of six divers from The Dive Shop Cambodia team on February 21st.

“Burma Maru” was known to be attacked by The USS Swordfish submarine on June 12th, 1942 during the World War II era. It was built in 1917 in Kobe, Japan, and was owned by the Nanyo Kaiun K.K. shipping company.

After being lost for 75 years, “Burma Maru” was finally found, located about 60 nautical miles (around 110 kilometers) from Koh Rong Island, Cambodia. The Japanese shipwreck, according to what the team have found, is 125 meters long, resting flat and upright at 67 meters with the top deck at 53 meters.

“We truly went where no man has gone before and was blessed with what we call a virgin wreck, untouched for almost 75 years!”─ Ivan Karadzic, (one of the divers of the dive team).
