Phnom Penh- Back during the civil war which started in the 1970s, a 10-piece set that includes a crown, earrings, armbands, and chest ornaments that were stolen from Cambodia’s Angkor Wat temple and were discovered in an online catalogue of a London art dealer in 2016-called Jonathan Tucker Antonia Tozer Asian Art dealership to which he agreed to return the stolen pieces in April 2017.

Upon the discovery, the Cambodian Government has made efforts more than a year with specialists to determine the legitimacy of the jewelries that dated back to the Khmer Empire.

Following its return, hundreds of people accompanied the pieces with security protecting its flanks and is dubbed “A Successful mission of all Cambodians” by Chuch Phoeun, the secretary of state of Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

The looted artefacts will soon be designated as national heritage items and will join scores of stolen artefacts that have made its way back to their countries. The items are now in display behind thick protective glasses at the National Museum.
