Middle Khmer Dictionary Written By a Cambodia Scholar Published

Phnom Penh- Un Dictionnaire du Khmer-Moyen, a newly published Khmer dictionary, was launched at the Buddhist Institute last week, with the participation of many people.

It is initiated and written by 88-year-old scholar and author, Pov Saveros, and is only available in Khmer-French. This new achievement engages in developing our understanding of French words for beginners.

In accordance with Chhom Kunthea, Director of the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor museum, “this new dictionary has been reviewed thoroughly and submitted to Buddhist Institute for publication”.

Four key messages are delivered to all Cambodian people by the author, “First, I am old and I cannot walk, yet I am able to work. Secondly, I have two more projects which are “Lberk Angkor Wat” known as “The construction of Angkor Wat” and a book of proverbs that I want to compete. Thirdly, I call for assistances to handle my work in composing the new books. Lastly, I want my library to be taken to Cambodia after I pass away, and provide benefits to the public.”

Ms. Saveros is one of the well-known authors in Cambodia and published 155 books, which mostly are about Khmer civilizations, culture, and linguistics. She has spent her whole life reading such as Middle Khmer inscriptions, palm manuscripts, and dictionaries before deciding to publish this dictionary.
