“No Water-Splashing, No Powder” During Khmer New Year in Phnom Penh

One of the biggest traditional occasions of Cambodia, Khmer New Year, is coming in less than 24 hours. And recently, the Governor of Phnom Penh has just released a statement regarding what to do and what not to do during this 3 days of Khmer New Year.

According to the announcement, in order to maintain peace, order and stability in Phnom Penh, as well as to preserve Khmer’s traditions and cultures, the Governor of Phnom Penh has stated that splashing water, playing powder or coal are prohibited.

According to the announcement, in order to maintain peace, order and stability in Phnom Penh, as well as to preserve Khmer’s traditions and cultures, the Governor of Phnom Penh has stated that splashing water, playing powder or coal are prohibited.


Splashing water in Phnom Penh is prohibited

Lately, splashing water by using water guns and water balloons, and also playing with powder onto those travelling on the roads, especially ones with motorbike, have become trendy during Khmer New Year days. Thus, to avoid causing unwanted incidents by such activities, the Governor of Phnom Penh decided to forbid the playing of water and powder.

Besides splashing water and powder, gambling and playing with any forms of explosive substances are also not allowed. The Governor of Phnom Penh has furthermore encouraged citizens to respect the traffic’s laws and regulations, no drunk-driving and to be extra careful of home appliances that can easily cause fire, so that everyone will have a fun and prosperous Khmer New Year celebration.
