One of History Museums Becomes a Field for Pokémon Players, Sparked Outrage

Phnom Penh- One of a well-known history museums in Cambodia has become a popular place for young adults to enjoy with their game called “Pokémon GO”, but many foreigners and Cambodian older people, especially the one who used to be a victim at there in the Khmer Rouge regime, consider it as an insult.

According to an article released by Sea-Globe.com, the former S-21 prison where thousands of Cambodian were slaughtered during The Khmer Rogue regime (1975-1979), and later became to Toul Sleng Genocide Museum​, now has been marked as meeting points for Pokémon GO players hoping to catch cartoon monsters on the ground.

This kind of action has started after the well-known game “Pokémon GO” available in Cambodia and can attract many people, remarkably young adults. But it was considered as an insult by many older people which most of them used to be a victim at S-21 prison.

Actually, Toul Sleng Genocide Museum is a place where both national and international tourists come in order to know how people which count as prisoners were living and suffering from many cruel punishments during Khmer Rouge regime. And it is a place where thousands of people were murdered also, that’s why the one who coming here for enjoying with their game, will consider that they’re not respecting the victims and it’s such a completely inappropriate behavior.
