Over 260 International Volunteers Join in House Construction for The Poors in Battambang

PHNOM PENH – More than 260 international volunteers will join the Habitat for Humanity’s international event of 2017 called, the “Cambodia Big Build”.

In accordance with local reports, participated volunteers will build homes for families, which are currently living in urban informal settlements in Prek Preah Sdach district, Battambang province.

They will work together with those poor families through Social Land Concessions and Circular 03, and take 5 days from 13^th to 17^th, to build 23 houses in O’ Kchay commune and New Bek Chan commune.

According to Habitat for Humanity Cambodia, through Cambodia Big Build, the construction for the last 14 houses in the Social Land Concessions Program, 82 lots and other 9 houses in the Dispute Resolution Mechanism Pilot Program under Circular 03 of sub-section 19 will be completed. Today, the two families are staying in temporary settlements, and have secured their land tenure rights.

The 2017 Cambodia Big Build program has provided a special opportunity for international volunteers to come to Cambodia and build a decent housing for families and residents that have not been possessed the land tenure rights for years in the Village 2 in Prek Preah Sdech, Battambang. Since 2003, The Habitat for Humanity has helped around 20,000 families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
