Most of us struggle with reading, especially reading on Non-fiction books. But, luckily I am here to introduce you 6 techniques, which may useful for social science course.

1. Schedule your time per week for reading, review, and study.

– Better spend time to read other books or something else in order to gain more information that related to your lessons.

2. Recognize the understanding, which is not the same as learning and recall.

– When we’re done with what we read, we would better use writing to organize the information that we’ve been reading.

3. Make connections between topic and chapters.

– Better keep in mind or have little understanding about what your topic is talking about and start to keep up with every chapters to get more understanding and more detailed about the topic.

4. Use study guide.

– Some books have a study guide at the end of the lesson, which summarizes and also provides us some practical such as matching key terms or critical thinking.

5. Use the SQ3R system or your own adaption to learn the material.

– SQ3R stand for S (Survey), Q (Questions), R (Read), R (Recite), R (Review). You may start from survey by spending around 3-5 minutes to skim the passage and start questioning yourself, then move to Read by reread the passage again, last but not least, recite what you have been reading by writing or list those information down and finally review it again for your long term memory.

6. Keep a log of total hours Studies per week.

– Log means day to day activities, which mean you need to study every day, keep motivating yourself to get closer to your dream.

Note: Avoid one night policy, last-minute cramming and procrastinating.
