PHNOM PENH- The ‘Explore Feed’ was officially being tested since October last year in six countries: Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Slovakia, Serbia, Guatemala, and Cambodia with an aim to understand if people prefer two separate feeds for personal and public content.
However, Facebook has decided to discontinue its ‘Explore Feed’ after user surveys indicated that it’s not useful.
Head of News Feed Adam Mosseri wrote in a blog post on Thursday:
“In surveys, people told us they were less satisfied with the posts they were seeing, and having two separate feeds didn’t actually help them connect more with friends and family.
We also received feedback that we made it harder for people in the test countries to access important information, and that we didn’t communicate the test clearly. We’re acting on this feedback by updating the way we evaluate where to test new products, and how we communicate about them.”
Based on a blog post written by Mosseri, Facebook is ending the experiment of ‘Explore Feed’ this week.
“Separately, we’re also discontinuing the Explore Feed bookmark globally this week. Explore gave people a new feed of content to discover Pages and public figures they hadn’t previously followed. We concluded that Explore isn’t an effective way for people to discover new content on Facebook,” said he.
Facebook has been regularly testing new features to discover what works best for users. However, there’s never a guarantee that it will work well. Mosseri acknowledged that Facebook has gained valuable lessons from the tests to improve News Feed for all users.
