Visitors Will Soon Reach Siem Reap by Train
After six months of surveying sites and plans on the construction of the railway from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by China Railway 17 Bureau Group, it is decided that the construction will soon take place and visitors will be able to reach the Northwestern part of Cambodia by train.
On the 21st of November 2017, H.E. Sun Chanthol, the Minister for Public Works and Transport, had met with a delegation of China Railway 17 led by Mr. Lu Peng along with Oknha Kith Meng, the Chairman of local conglomerates Royal Group, to discuss on the railway project. In addition, more projects on the development of existing railways and a new high-speed railway to Sihanouk Ville are already being discussed; however, details of cost, timeline, and role are yet to be known.

John Guiry, CEO of Royal Railways, a subsidiary company of Royal Group, said, “There is a lot of works to be done. Cambodia is known for its high transportation cost leaving plenty of rooms for improvement in low-cost options like railways”.
China is Cambodia’s largest foreign investor with companies investing billions of dollars every year to develop infrastructures.
