Water Taxi Service Planning To Launch Next Year in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh─ Since Phnom Penh’s traffic problem still poses great distress to the citizens, the government has been finding new alternative ways to improve the well-being of the society.

Recently on February 7^th, the Governor of Phnom Penh, H.E. Pa Socheatevong has said during a meeting about the plan of launching a Water Taxi Service by using 20 high-speed boats as a means of transportation, in which will start running in April 2018.

This Water Taxi Service project is planning to run along Tonle Sap, Chaktomuk and Bassac River, from Prek Pnov Bridge to Ta Kmao City with 9 ports throughout the waterway, and will be operating from 6am till 8pm.

With the capacity to accommodate up to 90 passengers per boat, it is believed that this new type of transport will help to ease the traffic conditions in Phnom Penh.

Netizens have shown positive feedback on this initiative, as they think it would be a good way to reduce the traffic congestions and passengers will be able to enjoy the fresh air along the river as well. However, some netizens have also expressed concerns regarding to the safety, and have requested the Governor to take into consideration of all safety-related issues, to make sure that the services will be running smoothly and safely once the plan is being implemented.
