The White Building Soon Disappear, After Standing More than 50 Years in Phnom Penh
White Building is the first modern building in Cambodia, which was built in 1960s under king Norodom Sihanouk regime.
White Building was one of Vann Molyvann’s projects called Bassac River Front Cultural Complex, which consisted of 468 apartments and composed 6 blocks of concrete construction with 3-4 floors connected by open bridge structures along with a double-loaded spine.
Everything was changed in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime, including the White building, as a result, it was converted to be the lonely and silent construction. However, after the Khmer Rouge regime, there was still no better change for the White building, and it has become to be the construction with poor sanitation and insecurity.

The White Building, stands in Phnom Penh for more than 50 years
In 2017, Cambodian government has announced that the White Building, which is homing to more than 2,500 residents, will soon be redeveloped by Japanese firm Arakawa Co Ltd by slating for three-years and cost around 70 million dollars, according to local reports.
The residents received two choices, which to live elsewhere during the construction and return to a new apartment or sell out and find a new home. Besides this, the White Building, which stands in the middle of Phnom Penh city for more than 50 years, will disappear soon.
